The marketing profession is becoming more competitive, and it’s not just in the marketplace.
And it doesn’t have to be an easy one.
If you’re interested in marketing, you’ll be a part of a competitive industry and one that’s becoming increasingly important to the Australian economy, as companies become increasingly reliant on a more efficient delivery of information and services.
Adelaide is the world’s third-largest metropolitan area, with more than 40 per cent of the country’s population living in the city.
Its main export industry is its oil and gas industry, which employs about 100,000 people and is the second largest employer after the banking sector.
The city’s unemployment rate is about 12 per cent, but according to the Bureau of Statistics, about 25 per cent are in employment, with many people finding work in other industries.
Adelaide’s marketing school is set to become the first of its kind in the country, and will offer courses on a range of subjects including advertising, marketing and sales, to boost confidence, improve work-life balance and build a market-ready reputation.
The course, entitled The Business of Marketing, was developed by the University of Adelaide’s marketing program, which is based at the University.
“Adelaide has been the epicenter of the ad industry for many decades,” said Dr Anne-Marie Wills, associate professor of marketing at the university.
It’s also one of the most well-known markets for pharmaceutical companies and the pharmaceutical industry is expected to generate $4.6 billion in revenue by 2020.
But the industry is in transition and many businesses have struggled to adapt to the changing environment.
Many major pharmaceutical companies have announced their intention to sell off their manufacturing operations to other companies.
The Adelaide Hospital and Health Foundation is one of several that has announced it will be moving its manufacturing facilities to South Australia in 2021.
In 2018, Adelaide recorded its highest unemployment rate in the state and the University’s research has found that people with a college degree are twice as likely to be employed as those with less than a diploma.
There’s also been a surge in demand for marketing graduates in the past decade, with a recent study estimating the number of students applying for a marketing degree in the region at more than 30,000.
While the industry has continued to grow in Adelaide, the city is still struggling with the housing market, and its employment rate is the lowest in the Australian state.
When it comes to the job market, the major drivers for many people moving into the industry are increased demand for a professional marketing degree, increased competition for entry-level positions and lower wages.
Some have also found it difficult to find a job that pays enough to cover the cost of living in Adelaide.
To boost confidence and boost work-family balance, Dr Wills said the course will focus on learning to deliver information and a strong brand that helps to build an image for an employer.
“There’s so much that you can learn about marketing from this course, it’s about developing a brand that will help to build trust and build rapport and build an employer base for you,” she said.
This is the first program of its type in Australia and it is designed to teach students the skills needed to become successful marketing executives.
Dr Wills is the co-director of the marketing program at the school.
