A course designed to teach marketers how to sell products and services is often worse than the ones they’re meant to teach, a new study has found.
The report from the Canadian Marketing Association said the course, known as the Marketing Communication course, is not a great fit for an entrepreneur or a businessperson who wants to grow their brand.
“If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re probably not a marketing person,” said Jennifer Jaffee, a marketing communications specialist at the Canadian marketing association.
“If you don’t have a big brand and you’re just doing a few smaller marketing activities, this course isn’t going to work for you.”
The course was designed to train marketers to sell more products and to help them build a business, the association said.
But, the study said, it’s not as if the marketing course is easy to learn.
It was designed for entrepreneurs and people who want to sell goods and services, not businesspeople, it said.
“There’s a very high risk of this course being an inferior product,” Jaffire said.
The association recommends marketers check out a marketing communication course before trying this one.
The marketing course was originally offered in 2014, but has since been replaced by a new course called “Marketing Management”.
It’s now called “marketing management courses.”
Jaffire’s study found that the courses are mostly designed for people who already know the basics of marketing, like how to market, how to create a website, how and when to promote and how to communicate their business.
“We’ve heard from entrepreneurs and marketing people that they were really frustrated by the course,” she said.
It also found that many of the courses were not tailored to businesspeople.
The marketing courses teach people how to understand the world, but not how to make money from their marketing efforts, Jaffie said.
She said marketing courses should focus on how to use data to improve your business, rather than on the marketing techniques used to sell your products.
“The marketing courses that are designed to improve marketing can’t provide the answers for how to get the most from your marketing,” she told CBC News.
Jaffee said marketing departments should work with the marketing education programs and not hire consultants to help run the courses.
The Canadian Marketing Academy has not responded to CBC News’ request for comment.
Jiffee said it was frustrating to find courses that don’t provide a real sense of how to run your business.
There’s really no way of being successful without knowing how to do your own marketing, she said, adding that marketing courses will never work for every entrepreneur.
“I would hope that marketers would focus on helping their own companies to be successful, not going out and hiring consultants to run marketing courses for their own businesses,” she added.
Joffee said the association encourages marketers to find other courses that can meet their needs, including the Marketing Communications course and the Marketing Management course.
